National Take Back Initiative

According to the 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), marijuana is currently the most used illicit drug in the United States, with 17.4 million people reporting past month usage.  To view the complete fact sheet, click here.

Monitoring The Future

On December 14, 2011, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, ONDCP's (Office of National Drug Control Policy) Director, Gil Kerlikowske, joined with other Federal leaders to release the most recent results of the national Monitoring the Future survey.

Highlights

  • rates of smoking and drinking are now at historic lows among teens; however,
  • one in nine 12th graders in America have used synthetic marijuana in the last year
  • using illegal drugs is not part of everyday life in America, and it is not a rite of passage
  • some 70% of high school seniors who used prescription drugs non-medically in the past year got them from a friend or relative

Compliance Checks

On December 13, 2011, the Kanabec County Sheriff's Office conducted an alcohol compliance check with the businesses that hold alcohol licenses for resale with Kanabec County.  Of the thirteen businesses checked, 85% passed.

On September 27, 2011, the Kanabec County Sheriff's Office conducted a tobacco compliance check with the businesses that hold tobacco licenses for resale within Kanabec County.  Of the fifteen businesses checked, 80% passed.

On September 26, 2011, the Kanabec County Sheriff's Office conducted a tobacco compliance check with the businesses that hold tobacco licenses for resale within Kanabec County.  Of the fourteen businesses checked, 86% passed.

On July 21, 2011, the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office conducted a tobacco compliance check with the businesses that hold tobacco licenses for resale within Kanabec County. Of the fourteen businesses checked, 100% passed!

  • For the most recent year available, the economic costs associated with alcohol use in Minnesota are an estimated $5.06 billion.
  • This amounts to over $975 for every person in the state.
  • These costs are 17 times greater than the $296 million in tax revenues collected from alcohol sales.
